A kantele is the traditional stringed instrument of Finland played by Vainamoinen in the Finnish epic poem the Kalevala.
When the old Vainamoiner sang the finish epic of the Kalevala he played the first kantele and the animals from the woods and all the people listened together with fascination.
The Choroi Kantele has a diatonic tuning of c'-d'-e'-f'-g'-a'-b'-c -d which can be re-tuned to the minor keys of the ancient Finnish folk songs. The traditional way to play the Kantele is on your knees and it can also be held in the hands. It is plucked or strummed.
